Life is too short to knit with really cheap yarn. My rule of thumb is to always buy the best quality yarn you can afford. If you are going to put in hours of work, using the most exquisite yarn adds such an extra pleasure to the knitting experience. Here you'll find advice on yarns that I use and recommend.
This scrumptious yarn comes in such an array of delicious colours as well as some heathered options.
I have used this in my Montgolfier hat project and I have to say it is fantastic for showing up cable work. The yarn has a wonderful bounce and is so soft but still sturdy. It certainly passes all my itch tests.
This yarn is American and Quince & Co stock yarn ranging from fingering to chunky in 5 weights.
Oh my, this yarn is just stunning. Cleverly dyed in amazing colourways, it's really hard to pick a colour.
This yarn is from America and I am currently using it held with Hedgehog Fibres Kidsilk in swamp. The project is a sweater called Sorrel and I fell in love with the pops of colour in the stitches.
The yarn is soft and round with no splitting or knots. Do yourself a favour and get your hands on some.
Soft squishy and fluffy. Kidsilk Haze is such a versatile yarn. Here I used white, held double with Brooklyn Tweed Vale in Parchment.
The resulting fabric is lofty, springy and zero itch factor.
Both wash up to a soft yarn that doesn't grow too much, possibly a half size bigger so it makes it easy to make the correct size. This project was so much fun to knit with the lace yoke adding enough detail to keep it interesting. I love it!
Walk Collection Cozy Merino in Fingering Weight.
I used this yarn in the Pride and Prejudice Henley. Amazing yarn which had beautiful tones and the colour way really did look like metal dust. The resulting fabric knits up to a lovely soft springy garment which holds its shape. It’s soft enough to be worn next to the skin so was a perfect choice for this project.
Devine stuff from Cork in Ireland. Kidsilk Lace is the ultimate in fuzziness. It contains 70% Kid mohair and 30% silk. The silk content adds such a glow to the yarn. This lace weight yarn is a great carry along yarn to add a beautiful halo effect to your project. I used this in my Sorrel sweater and I love this suff! Get your hands on some.
How delicious is this stuff. Just like cotton candy. This is Fibresmiths own handdyed yarn and the colour is Raspberry Sorbet. It’s a lace weight yarn with 70% Super Kid Mohair and 30% Mulberry Silk. The silk content glows and is so beautiful and soft. I am using held double with another yarn to make the Nele sweater. I find it really easy to frog and is easy to wind into a ball. I highly recommend, just make sure you buy enough as its hand dyed so each batch is different.
This fingering weight sock yarn comes in so many colour options you will happily spend hours working out which ones you want. The colour ways are nothing short of spectacular and work really well if your doing a fade like the Sorrel Sweater. It’s made of 90% merino wool and 10% nylon. Zero itch factory. This stuff is dreamy.
